stop press! jag the joker has been won!

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 7:24 pm

In my ongoing (self-appointed) capacity as high-speed conduit for late-breaking news from Kellerberrin, I have a very exciting announcement to make.

Jag the Joker has been won.

Those of you who followed Bilateral Kellerberrin would be familiar with my forays to the pub each Friday night to try and win the big bucks from the Jolly Publican, Brendan. (For these tales, try searching for the word “Joker” in the search bar to the right). Alas, a bellyfull of beer and an empty wallet was the closest I got.

But Roger Scott, native of Kellerberrin and now residing in Sydney, just sent me a text message. I assume the information leaked through to him care of his mother, Pauline.

Here it is:

“Pip and Mark won the joker $5400!”

to which I replied: “you mean Pip and Dawn? Who is Mark?”

and his reply: “Thats who I meant Pip and Mark are another couple in town its so confusing when everyone has the same name”

So there you have it. If there are any Kellerberrins still out there reading this blog, please update me all the goss in the comments below! I want to know the whole story. Did they shout a round for the whole pub? Was there a party all night? Did they deserve the cash? What are they going to do with it now (assuming there is any left)?

Stop Press! Buttons Located!

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 11:37 am

I’ve just had a call from Betty Johnson, who said she had a call from the lady last night who has the buttons for me. Someone’s going to drop them off to Betties (the shop) maybe later in the day, but at the moment she can’t get through to the husband of the lady who has the buttons because he’s sleeping, and he’s the one who’s going to drop them off. Or something.

The details were a bit confusing, but the message is the same: the classified ad in the Pipeline took less than 24 hours to deliver a result! Before long, my Keller Volunteer Fire Brigade outfit will be complete (except for shiny shoes, I bet they used to wear nice shiny shoes…)

Cunderdin High School Workshops Day 3

Yesterday began with some general questions about “what music could be”.

Definitions of sound, noise, and music – what is noise to one person might be musical to someone else…

In the beginning, the students were reluctant to go out on a limb. When I asked what kinds of music they liked, some played it safe: “you know, all kinds.” One girl finally owned up to being really into heavy metal: she thrashes away at home with an electric guitar. Adam, (or “Mr Whatsthepoint?”) is already up to 5th grade piano.

Kellerberrin Thursday 12 May 2005

More and more, I have the feeling that we are getting nowhere, slowly. As the talk goes on, we are getting nowhere, and that is a pleasure. It is not irritating to be where one is. It is only irritating to think one would like to be somewhere else… (more…)

Spatial Bin Analysis

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 8:55 pm

In Kellerberrin, identical rubbish bins are spaced out at uneven intervals along the main road. (See photographic survey here). Why is this so? It is my theory that the bins reflect an asymmetrical use of urban space by the town’s inhabitants. Most probably this is due to the variation in the type of businesses located on this bustling urban strip. One hypothesis which seems likely is that the local council have allocated bins on a “most needed” basis, rather than simply making the space between bins “equidistant”.

I bin everywhere

Josh remarked upon how many bins there were on Massingham Street. And lo! Once you look, there’s no denying it! This has got to be the highest number of garbage receptacles per capita…of any town in Australia? Yes, let us claim that title for Kellerberrin, at least until some other tidy town wannabe makes an attempt to wrest the crown from our tidy tidy head.

Since it was a beautiful Sunday, I decided to document this phenomenon for posterity. So here you have it folks:
The Kellerberrin Bin Run, 2005.

rainwater, anyone?

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 1:25 pm

The roof is leaking. Of all the places in this vast craft barn, it drips on my left shoulder as I sit at the computer. I shift a foot to the right and place a wine cooler under the leak. This is definitely the rain everyone has been waiting for.

Anne was on her way to the Co-op to swap over our spring water bottle when this morning’s deluge really hit. Outside the butcher shop, Mark and Toby were trying to stop Pip’s wooden planks from floating away. Toby asked Anne why she needed to go to the shop for water, when it was falling out of the sky. He reckoned the rain water would be great to drink. So she placed the 15 litre bottle under the gutter overflow and it slowly filled up. We stood out there, adjusting its position to best accept the wobbling stream. There were bits of spiders web and stuff floating around in it, from the gutters, but we figured we could filter them out after.

applying linseed oil to the cross at the prev

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 12:44 am

One of the pointless tasks I have been trying to get around to for a few weeks is oiling the cross on top of the Prev. What follows is an explanation and illustration. Apologies to those of you with dial up access, as there are a bunch of photos to follow…

13 POINTLESS SENTENCES, AND 13 MORE

Filed under: pointlessness — Lucas @ 8:58 am

1. EACH DAY, DO ONE THING WHICH YOU BELIEVE IS POINTLESS.
2. “AT THE END OF THE DAY”, EVALUATE THE POINTLESSNESS OF THE DAY.
3. SOMETIMES THINGS WHICH LOOK POINTLESS HAVE A HIDDEN POINT.
4. ACTIVITY ALWAYS HAS SIGNIFICANCE, EVEN IF UNINTENDED.
